School Curriculum:    

  • In grades K-5 the focus of the instruction is driven by the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) in the content areas of Reading, Language Arts, Science, and Mathematics. Atlanta Public Schools has developed its own framework, in the content area of mathematics, based on the framework from the state. In the content area of Social Studies, students are still given instruction using the Quality Core Curriculum (QCC). GPS standards for S.S. will begin 2008.
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program (PYP)
    • 75% of Certified Staff have received off-site Regional International Bacc. Training.
    • 90% of Certified Staff have received on-site International Bacc. training
    • 95% of Certified Staff have received either on-site or off-site IB training.
    • All paraprofessionals have received on-site training from IB Coordinator.
    • IB Coordinator, Stephanie Kastner, is an IBNA volunteer –a workshop leader, site visitor, application reader, and consultant.

Foreign Language Program

Challenge Program

Students who qualify for the gifted and talented curriculum, the Challenge Program, will receive services from a gifted certified teacher using the “pull-out” model. The schedule will be developed by the Challenge teacher with input from the classroom teachers.
